“Yet while the immortal Heracles banquets at the divine table, his mortal phantom stalks about Tartarus, among the twittering dead; bow drawn, arrow fitted to the string.”
January 1, 2023: I’ve created a new Twitter account to serve as a notifier for any new content I post on this site. I won’t be reading any feeds nor following or retweeting any accounts. If that sounds like a convenient way to know when there’s something new here, feel free to follow.
November 3, 2022: WSJ’s Matthew Hennessey validating my more than 100-day-old decision with prescient glee.
November 5, 2022: If you’re not confident enough that you’ll be able to recoup 8 USD per month by monetizing your Twitter content, you don’t have an argument against the Twitter Blue fee and you have no reason to subscribe in the first place.
November 23, 2022: Once again, Jerry Holkins nails it. It’s a shame that only the three of us who still read blogs will ever see it.
Some day I’ll edit this post to detail my experience that led up to leaving Twitter and, in effect, social media altogether. For now, I’ll leave you with the accounts that I was following when I quit:
I also had the retweets for these accounts turned off. I found that very helpful for filtering out noise and unwanted information.
Get into the habit of long-form reading if you’re not already. I believe that the micro-form reading that social media promotes is toxic to the mental faculties and detrimental to real-world social development.
If you use RSS, copy and paste this link into your reader to follow this site. Alternatively, you can subscribe via email to recieve new content alerts.
Keep calm, and game on.
(The following—hah—section was posted in 2012 as a “disclaimer” for my Twitter account. Dumb and cringe, but it was something I did so here it is. –Ed.)
You’re here because you clicked the link in Jack’s Twitter profile.
If you choose to List or Follow him expect coarse language, links to breaking game development news (both independent & professional), art & design, and on Mondays & Fridays the odd snipe at the WWE.
He’ll only shill shit he believes in, no paid advertisements ever. He’ll never post a spoiler. He’s not always right, and he knows it.
He’s a game developer, Ludum Dare 48 participant, & weekend cloner.
He’s also an author.
He won’t Follow you back on Twitter but he might List you if you’re regularly tweeting relevant information. For example: Jack’s Indie Twitter List (Lost content. –Ed.)
If you really care about boosting your Follower count, follow @DarkAcreGames, @DarkAcreBooks, or both. They auto-followback.
While you’re here you might as well subscribe to the Dark Acre, or Like our Facebook page.
P.S. If you’re mad because you can’t DM me, try e-mailing me through the CONTACT link at the top of this page. I find that you can express yourself far better when freed from the artificial constraints of Twitter.
“Why do you put a ‘:’ in front of every Tweet?”
There are 3 possible explanations:
