A Cliff Overlooking the Ocean

The end is a beginning,
or so
some say.

The end is a release,
a letting go,
a time for goodbyes.

The end is a closing door
that catches the fingers
of the careless.

The end is a bright light
coming down the tunnel
to obliterate.

The end is a credits roll
that no one reads
as they file out of the theater.

The end is a crust
left dried and dead
in a rumpled plastic bag.

The end is a
goodnight
and God bless.

The end is sudden silence
after a lifetime
of cacophony.

The end is an answer
posed in the form
of a question.

In the end
we begin again.

This is the end.
