Altered Carbon

Lurid, pulpy, and more science fantasy than fiction—sprinkled here and there with awkward eroticism—it felt to me like a pale shadow of W. Gibson's early work: occasionally poetic, embracing grand philosophies, and ultimately overreaching. Reminded me a bit of the old Doc Savage pulps, only too modern to possess the same charm. Worth reading? Maybe, if as a good example of what passes as pop science fiction and an inspiration to write better.
